Dentist and the malpractice insurance they are required to carry. What is lawsuit protocol? I am in medical malpractice settlement negotiations with a dentist. Her insurance company was handling the negotiations, then the dentist license expired and the insurance company dropped the dentist. The dentist obtained a new policy from a new insurance company. Now the original insurance company has dropped out of negotiations. Is it possible that the original insurance company wants me to file suit against the dentist, and then the new insurance company will have to defend the dentist? Or, because the first insurance company received the initial settlement letter with notice of intent to sue, they will have to carry on and defend the dentist even though they no longer have the dentist as a client. Please clarify the typical procedure in this type of situation. Thanks a million! N. Thanks for the info. I do have an attorney. But I do not want to sue and want to settle. The original insurance Co. made an offer, then we countered..then the Ins Co. dropped the dentist, and did not responded to the counter offer. SO, of course the attorney wants to sue cause he will make the big bucks. I want to settle because we were on track to settle. I just can't figure why the original insurance company would want to go to court unless they really don't care one way or another because the dentist is no longer a concern to them in the long run??? Tks. for you input.
How do you trust dentist when you get different opinions by different dentists? Does this happen to you? When we went to a dentist, he said you have cavity and also need to go for gum treatment. For second opinion we went to another dentist and says everything is fine. Then after six month this second dentist says you have to go for gum treatment to periodentist, but we didn't and changed dentist again. The new dentist says you have no problem and everything looks good to me. So how we know that you is telling truth? We feel like when you have insurance then the dentist would definitely try to send you to oral surgeon or periodentist like he is getting commision sending patients to them. Also these oral surgeon and periodentist are in the same office as general dentist most of the time.
How should you go about choosing a dentist? I'm operating under the assumption that all dentists are not equal - that some are more skilled and more ethical. How do I go about choosing the best dentist? What I mean by skill should be obvious. What I mean by ethical is someone who will not tell the patient that he or she needs an unnecessary service / someone who will not overcharge for their services / etc. Do those dentists who charge less for their services possess less skill? If a practice has multiple dentists, are you able to request a specific one?

How many visits to the dentist should it take for a single tooth removal? I recently had a tooth removed and while healing I noticed a piece of tooth still in my gum. I quickly returned to my dentist and had it removed free of charge. I yet again have to go back to the dentist office for yet another piece of the same tooth to be removed. Is this normal and how could this be avoided in the future? And should i get another dentist?
Can a dental hygienist tell a dentist to put on clean gloves? If a dental hygienist notices that a dentist forgot to put on a fresh pair of gloves between patients, would it be okay for her to say something to the dentist (in front of the patient)? How often should we visit the dentist? I visit the dentist every 6 months. Can a dentist do what they want without asking parental permission when the insurance does not cover it? I had to take my kids to a new dentist when our old one moved, and all records were transferred to the new one. They were going in for their routine cleaning, I was asked to stay in the waiting room with my other children. I then receive a bill for floride. I later find out floride is only covered once a year by the insurance. I called the dentist office to get some kind of explanation as to why i was not asked if i wanted this being it was not covered. Their answer was "we don't get involved with the insurance, we do what we feel is in the best interest of the child". I still don't understand how they feel it is okay to do something without at least asking if this is something i want, or can afford.
How do I make the trip to the dentist more enjoyable? I go to the dentist each month and each time I dread the experience. The reason why I hate going to the dentist is because of the toothpaste. Is there some other toothpaste I can ask them to use? Is there a way I can make it more enjoyable?
What's the difference between having teeth removed in your dentist's surgery and hospital ? I was told I needed all 4 wisdom teeth out and my dentist said he would do it in his surgery as he thought it best to avoid a general aneasthetic (or however you spell it !). He has removed two of them in his surgery but wants me to go to hospital for one of the remaining ones. He said it's close to the nerve, which is why he doesn't want to do it. Is he going back on what he said about gen aneasthetics or do the hospital just have a diff way of getting them out ? Also my dentist is a private one (I'm in the UK), will I have to pay to have this treatment in hospital ? Anyone know what the cost in comparison to having it done at the dentist is ? I think I paid about £120 for each tooth out so far. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks.

What is the difference between a dentist and an oral surgeon? So I went to the dentist last week and they told me I have to see an oral surgeon because the tooth is curved or something like that. What is the difference? Also will they do anything different to pull the tooth or do they just have different tools to use? I'm confused, someone please tell me the difference. BTW it's to get a tooth pulled. How do I convince my mother to call the dentist? I had a filling put in on the 2nd that was supposed to only last for one week. Its lasted, but its wearing away now. Underneath this filling is a layer of cotton and then the nerve is totally exposed (the fault student dentist fiasco, don't ask). The endodonist said that if I was in any kind of pain at all it was an emergency and to call immediately. Its been in pain for more than a week, and now I can no longer chew without incredible nerve pain from the afflicted tooth. It feels like the filling is being ripped out. I am incredibly frustrated and annoyed, I've told my mother my symptoms on several occasions, but her reaction always is "the appointment is soon, just take some Advil and don't chew on that side of your mouth". If the doctor hadn't seemed so adamant about us calling then I wouldn't have a problem at all, but I'm worried about what will happen. My mother won't call the dentist like he insisted that we should, so how do I convince her? The endodontist is a family friend and doing it for free, actually.

A dentist performed unnecessary work on me and misrepresented additional work that needed to be done. It was really gross, and I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience?
How can I prevent a cavity from getting worse until my dentist appointment? I have a cavity that started out as what looked like a chip on one of my back molars but it's progressively getting worse and looking like a little hole. Can a dentist help my periodontitis? I have periodontal disease. I've never gone to a dentist because my family has never had dental insurance, along with the usual feelings of fear and embarrassment. My gums have receded and I've tried to keep the disease from getting worse by brushing all the time and using Listerine. I called a periodontist's office, but he's booked until June. I'm scared to wait that long. The lady told me to go to a dentist, but I know that my problem is more so for a periodontist and not a regular dentist. I know I will probably have to have root planning and scaling. Will going to a dentist be even worth it? I'm scared to wait any longer, but I need to go to a periodontist, but all of them in my area seem to be booked up for at least a few months. I know it's not at the beginning. I guess it's moderate to severe. My teeth don't seem loose or anything like that, but I'm still scared out of my mind, especially since I can't seem to get to a periodontist soon.
How does a dentist fix a tooth that has grown in the wrong place? Ok, my baby canine tooth did not come out, and the adult one has grown in one place over (where my lateral incisor should be). Now, does the dentist pull the baby tooth, and move the other one into the right place? Or, I've also heard that they just put a crown over the tooth to make it appear to be the correct tooth. Any help would be great. Thank you

Is it normal for a dentist to not allow parents to accompany their young children during an exam/dental work? We just started with a new Pediatric Dentist and they have a policy that states "parents are not allowed in the room with their child during an exam/dental work". Is this normal? I was very offended and ended up arguing with the dentist, before she allowed me in for the "first visit only". I'm not planning on going back... just wondering if this is normal?
I need a good dentist in houston who can do crowns? The last time I was in Germany, a dentist did a gold onlay. She did not do it well and it would come off every 6 months or so. Later I came to know that she did a preparation for ceramic onlay and put a gold onlay. This was the reason why it would come off again and again. Now my onlay has come out again. A (Russian) dentist I visited told me I need to do a crown now which is like a cap on my teeth. I need to know a really good dentist in Houston area so that I dont have to face the same problem of a shoddy work as my earlier dentist in Germany. Please help. Guys thanks for the answer. But pls read the question. WD doesnt even exist in Houston. And I do know ADA and 1800 Dentist. I need to know from anyone who has had a very good experience at a Dentist or a bad experience. I want to go by word of mouth please. Before I commit to go to one dentist I need to know that she will not do a shoddy job. Rather I need to know a Dentist who is known to do a good job. I need good dentists in Houston and around please. Not CA or WY please.
How can I find a good dentist in UES NYC or White Plains? I moved to UES NYC (work in white plains) and do not know where to find a good dentist. Anyone have a good person to recommend? Looking for a trustworthy dentist and don't know how to tell if someone is good or not!
