My adult dog will be having dental surgery with possible removal of all teeth. What should I expect?

Seven months ago I adopted an adult dog with severe dental issues. The vet indicated that he may loose all his teeth. What should I expect for his recovery time? Will he be able to eat with no teeth. Most front teeth are already missing.

  1. I had a chihuahua that at 12 years of age had all but four removed . He did well and fully recovered with in a day or two . he lived until 16 years of age after that . he ate a good quality canned food after the teeth were removed .
  2. He should recover very quickly and will have to have a soft food diet for the rest of his life. Either canned food or dry kibble that has been softened by soaking in water. You can also feed him soft foods like boiled chicken and rice and cottage cheese.
  3. Yes..he can eat canned food with no problem.
