What type of dentist should one go to if he wants to be out during dental surgery.?

When I was a child my dentist pulled my tooth when it wasn't numb, for some strange reason I think thats going to happen again. So, now I would just rather be completely out.

1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AN ORAL SURGEON AND TELL HIM YOU WANT TO BE ASLEEP.
2. An oral surgeon is trained, and has (should) an office equipped for using anesthesia. Let the dentist know that you want to be asleep. If you don't have one in mind, ask family, friends or coworkers for a recommendation. It is not a good idea to just choose a name out of the phone book. It will be ok!

4. usually your dentist will give you the option of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas), premedication (such as valum, lortab, etc), or even intravainous sedation (IV sed.) to relax prior to dental treatment. when you call to set up an appointment (a general dentist can take care of you in this situation), let the receptionist know you'd like to speak with the dentist about being medicated before or during treatment and she will take care of you from there. but if they put you in the chair and you are not comfortable, you can refuse treatment. most times in a situation like this the dentist will have you come in for an evaluation before prescribing you medication, or setting up for a sedation based treatment.
