- DO A SEARCH FOR DENTAL SCHOOLS IN YOUR AREA AND CALL EACH SCHOOL TO ASK ABOUT ORTHO PROGRAMS AND THE COSTS. THE ORTHO PROGRAMS ARE ALWAYS TIED IN TO DENTAL SCHOOLS.
- If you go onto the ADA's website and look under education, you can find a tool that will allow you to search by state and specialty the answer you're looking for as far as the schools in California. Class sizes and tuition varies between every orthodontic program...the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota accepts a class of 1 every year, other programs take up to 15 people or so...average class size is about 5 or 6 for most programs. There are about 300 seats a year available for people applying to become orthodontists, and about 1000 people apply for them every year. Tuition ranges from full-ride to 90K+ per year. Use the ADA's website to find the schools you would like to apply to, and go from there. If you are considering applying for orthodontics, you'll want to spread your applications out more than just in California...it's really really competitive to get in anywhere.
